第一部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Many facts suggest that children are overweight and the situation is getting worse, according to the doctors. I feel there are a number of reasons for this.
Some people blame the fact that we are surrounded by shops selling unhealthy, fatty foods, such as fried chicken and ice cream, at low prices. This has turned out a whole generation of grownups who seldom cook a meal for themselves. If there were fewer of these restaurants, then probably children would buy less takeaway food.
There is another argument that blames parents for allowing their children to become overweight. I agree with this, because good eating habits begin early in life, long before children start to visit fast food shops. If children are given fried chicken and chocolate rather than healthy food, or are always allowed to choose what they eat, they will go for sweet and salty foods every time, and this will carry on throughout their lives.
There is a third reason for this situation. Children these days take very little exercise. They do not walk to school. When they get home, they sit in front of the television or their computers and play computer games. Not only is this an unhealthy pastime (消遣), it also gives them time to eat more unhealthy food. What they need is to go outside and play active games or sports.
The above are the main reasons for this problem, and therefore we have to encourage young people to be more active, as well as steering them away from fast food shops and bad eating habits.

I had the meanest mother in the world. While other kids ate candy for breakfast, I had to have cereal(谷类), eggs and toast. Others had cokes and candy for lunch, while we had to eat a sandwich. As you can guess, my supper was different from the other kids’. But at least I was not alone in my suffering. My sister and two brothers had the same mean(吝啬的) mother as I did.
My mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. She had to know who our friends were and what we were doing. We had to wear clean clothes every day. Other kids always wore their clothes for days. We reached the height of disgrace(丢脸) because she made our clothes herself, just to save money.
The worst is yet to come. We had to be in bed by 9:00 each night and up at 7:45 the next morning. So while my friends slept, my mother actually had the courage to break Child Labor Law. She made us work. I believed she lay awake all night thinking up mean things to do to us. Through the years, our friends’ report cards had beautiful colors on them, black for passing, red for failing. My mother, however, would merely be content with black marks. None of us was allowed the pleasure of being a dropout.
She forced us to grow up into educated and honest adults. Using this as a background, I’m now trying to bring up my three children. I’m filled with pride when my children think I am mean because now I thank God every day for giving me the meanest mother in the world.

Best known as an author of fairy tales (童话), Hans Christian Andersen (1805—1875) wrote such children’s stories as The Ugly Duckling, The Little Mermaid, and The Emperor’s New Clothes. However, he was also an actor, a singer, and an artist. As an artist, he was particularly good at paper cutting.
Andersen had many reasons for making his paper cuttings, but the main one was to give pleasure. Andersen loved to tell his interesting stories to anyone who would listen. As he spoke, he would take out his scissors and make a wonderful paper cutting to help his words.
He also found that his paper cuttings helped with a better communication between himself and others. Although a shy man, he still loved to tell his stories face to face with his listeners. His stories and paper cuttings helped him to communicate when he would have otherwise felt uncomfortable.
The paper cuttings also became great gifts for friends and families. He would give his cuttings not only to children but also to grown-ups. When his writing became famous, these gifts were even more valued.
Now more than 100 years old, many of Andersen’s fine paper cuttings still exist in a museum in Denmark devoted to his works. While Andersen will always be remembered for his fairy tales, his beautiful works of art also remain for all to enjoy.

D(B卷作答)
Learning a foreign language will be compulsory from the age of seven in England’s primary schools in a national curriculum. The plans will be put out to public consultation later in the year. The Department of Education said that the aim was to ensure that pupils left primary school with high standards of abilities like writing and speaking. The proposals come among concerns over a decline in pupils taking foreign languages at GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education). In 2010, 43% of GCSE pupils were entered for a language, down from a peak of 75% in 2002.
Under the plan, primary schools could offer lessons in Mandarin, Latin and Greek, as well as French, German and Spanish. The plans are expected to emphasize the importance of grammar, setting out exactly what children should be expected to be taught each year, as well as giving lists of words they should be able to spell. Pupils will be read poems by their teachers, learn simple poems by heart and practice recitals from the age of five.
Russell Hobby, general secretary of the school leaders’ union, NAHT, said, “Reciting poetry and learning foreign languages are great for young children.” However, he added that teachers should be given the “respect for their experience and professionalism” to know how to teach these subjects.
Michael Rosen, the children’s writer and poet, expressed doubt about what he called “government diktat (命令)”. “I find in the plan the eagerness to instruct teachers and children because it will do them good, and that teachers and children themselves can’t choose and discover what is suitable and worthwhile.”
A spokesman said, “Some will think aspects are too demanding, while others think that they are not demanding enough, and there will be debate around what is appropriate at different ages.” He added that public opinion would be considered and the programme redrafted.
12. Why did the Department of Education work out the plan?
A. Because pupils don’t perform well in GCSE exams.
B. Because pupils in Britain are eager to learn foreign languages.
C. Because there is a decrease in pupils taking foreign languages.
D. Because studying foreign languages is very important nowadays.
13. Which of the following is true about the plan?
A. Grammar will be stressed more.
B. All students will be asked to learn Latin and Greek.
C. Pupils will be asked to learn to write poems from five.
D. More difficult words will be learned in primary schools.
14. From the text, we know that Michael Rosen _____.
A. very much approved of the plan.
B. was doubtful about the plan
C. thought the plan was not necessary
D. thought the plan was not demanding enough
15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. New curriculum “to make languages compulsory from seven”
B. How to improve pupils’ language skills in primary schools
C. A heated debate on British education
D.Is English or Mandarin the Language of the future

16 Sometimes they try to get out of a class to escape a teacher they don’t like. Here is some advice to solve this problem.
Ask yourself, “What can I learn from this teacher?” Even if you don’t worship (崇拜) his or her personality or lectures, dig deep until you find a subject in which he or she is very knowledgeable. Focus on that part of the teacher’s personality, and use him or her as a tool for learning. Not only will you gain more knowledge in that subject, but a closer relationship with your teacher may help you understand one another better. 17
Talk to students who are doing well in the class and ask them for tips, tools, and a plan of action to get along with the teacher better. 18
If you still can’t get along, make an appointment with the school guidance counselor (辅导员). He or she will offer many tips and suggestions for you to get out of difficult teacher relationships. 19 That means they can help you and your teachers get rid of the bad impression on each other.
20 Your parents can meet with your teacher and try to work it out.
Teachers are there for more than just homework, and they know about more than just their subject matter. They can help you learn how to function as an adult and a lifelong learner.
